TRENTON — Suspected drug dealers littered Route 1 with bags of heroin as they desperately tried to get rid of evidence during a wild police chase yesterday.

Cops scooped up 150 “decks” — small glassine bags — worth about $1,500 as rush-hour traffic ground to a complete gridlock. Four suspects were taken into custody after their minivan crashed at the Brunswick Circle.

Then later last night, narcs staged a raid on a second-floor room at the Budget Inn at New York and North Olden avenues in Trenton. The suspects were believed to have been staying there and dealing drugs.

A law enforcement officer was overheard telling another that some $40,000 worth of heroin had been confiscated after execution of a search warrant by city police, county detectives, and officers of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

The initial baggies of heroin were scattered along Route 1 from Mulberry Street to Baker’s Basin Road during the pursuit at about 3:25 p.m., according to Detective Lt. Stephen C. Varn on behalf of TPD Director Irv Bradley, and Casey DeBlasio, spokeswoman for County Prosecutor Joe Bocchini.
