TRENTON — Lonnie Newton was shot dead by Trenton cops Wednesday because his own father called 911 and said the son was carrying a gun, touching off the foot chase that ended with the slaying, angry relatives said yesterday.

“We believe the situation was created by my father,” said Lonnie’s grieving brother, Anthony. “My brother never had a gun. There had been a recent conflict between them, a family conflict, and my brother had gone to meet our father at home in the area. But they had a further disagreement, and my father called police, stating my brother had a gun.”
